Kathryn was 6 years old when she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Kathryn's parents encouraged her to participate in the fundraising walks every year and helped her learn how to manage her health and make good food choices. She also attended diabetes camp through the ADA. Over the years, Kathryn has grown more independent, more empowered, and more connected to a community that reminds her that she's not alone.
Meet Bridgette
Bridgette has been managing diabetes since 2010. She struggled with her diet, weight, sleep habits, blood sugar levels, and maintaining a positive outlook. Ironically, the pandemic was the catalyst to get her health back on track. Today, she's thriving. Now, Bridgette volunteers her time, energy, and effort with Step Out® Walk: Atlanta. She is a proud to be a Diabetes Advocate and a Diabetes Warrior, which is critical for obtaining funding for research, diabetes prevention efforts, and community outreach.
Meet Robert
Robert was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at 5 years old. He was fortunate to have a mother that was a registered nurse and was relentless in educating herself on proper management and advocating for Robert in a society largely uneducated about the disease. He hopes to continue learning, growing, and advocating for people living with the condition. Robert says "We are so much more than just a diagnosis."
